2009 - ANNUAL REPORT ON THE RUGBY DEVELOPMENT IN AZERBAIJAN

The 2009 was very successful for the Rugby Development in Azerbaijan. Regardless of the financial downturn allover the world the Azerbaijan Rugby Development Team consisting of Vagif Sadatkhan (Juniors Coach), Aleksey Borovskih (Azerbaijan Rugby Development Manager) and Emil Aliyev (Azerbaijan Rugby Press Attaché) managed to secure funds for the steady rugby development throughout 2009. The 2009 was full of exiting events for the 3 kids’ rugby clubs whose majority is formed by the kids from orphanage schools No1, No2 and No3 located in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
During the year the junior clubs participated in 6 competitions under the following age categories U8, U10, U11 and U15. One of the most remembering tournaments has been arranged with generous support of Baku Neftchi Saglamlig Society. In this tournament Azerbaijani teams hosted two junior teams from Georgia and three teams from TISA international schools where majority of the players are children of expatriates working in Azerbaijan under the international oil contracts. Of course we have a great pleasure to state the Azerbaijani team became a winner in all age groups.
Currently the Azerbaijan Rugby Development Team is planning juniors’ trip to Dubai for tournament in U15 age category. This is going to be a first of this type abroad competition for our juniors and we all hope that they will enjoy it and gain a very valuable playing experience. On behalf of the Azerbaijan Ruby Federation I would like to wish them a great success in this tournament!
Aleksey Borovskih
Development Manager
